Siamese Cassia Coffee Table with Epoxy River – Atlanta Project

Siamese Cassia Coffee Table with Epoxy River – Atlanta Project

Working with Meryl Toback Interiors on a residential project in Atlanta, we developed a barrel-shaped custom coffee table for clients with a large, traditionally appointed mansion. The brief came from both the designer and homeowner: create an extraordinary centerpiece scaled to the room's proportions, featuring exotic wood character and a form that would command attention without overwhelming the space. This project moved from initial consultation through design approval, 3D visualization, fabrication, and installation— documenting the full process from vision to delivered furniture.

Three slab designs presented to the client. This barrel-shaped Siamese Cassia option was selected for its organic contours and rich grain character.

Every custom furniture Atlanta project starts with understanding what the space demands. The designer and homeowner needed a large-scale luxury coffee table with visual presence. We presented three Siamese Cassia slab options, each offering distinct grain patterns and natural edge profiles. The selected slab featured a barrel shape with flowing contours, natural voids, and warm brown tones transitioning to golden amber — qualities that would define the finished piece.

3D visualization prepared for client approval, showing how the floating base table would anchor the seating arrangement in their living space.

With the slab selected, we created a realistic 3D rendering to confirm scale, placement, and proportions within the client's interior. The visualization showed the barrel-shaped table with its plexiglass floating base centered among neutral-toned seating. This approval step ensures alignment between client expectations and the physical outcome before we begin fabrication work.

Raw Siamese Cassia sections positioned in the workshop after final design approval, showing natural voids and organic edge contours. Clear resin fills natural voids, creating transparent river channels through the Siamese Cassia wood.

After client approval, we prepared the raw material. The slab was sectioned and arranged to preserve the barrel shape while planning for clear epoxy channels through the natural voids. At this stage, the wood remains unfinished—rough-cut edges, visible cracks, and surface irregularities that would later be stabilized and refined through the epoxy pour and custom finishing process.

The epoxy river table process demands precision. We positioned the wood sections in a containment mold and poured clear epoxy to fill voids and create glass-like channels between darker wood areas. This stage stabilizes the structure while adding a reflective surface that contrasts with the organic grain — a defining characteristic of the finished design.

Completed table installed in the Atlanta residence, featuring clear epoxy river channels, Siamese Cassia wood, and plexiglass floating base.

The finished table measures 38 inches wide by 76 inches long, with a 14-inch profile height. Our proprietary PU-oil hybrid finish—developed in-house—enhances the Siamese Cassia's natural depth: rich browns, golden streaks, and swirling grain patterns. The plexiglass base creates a floating effect, making the barrel shape appear suspended. The table anchors the living space without competing with the green velvet seating.

A closer view reveals the interaction between exotic wood and epoxy. Natural voids filled with clear resin create transparent channels that catch light from nearby windows. The swirling grain, organic knots, and color variation within the Siamese Cassia are preserved under a glossy topcoat, emphasizing the material's character while providing a durable surface for daily use.

This Siamese Cassia project demonstrates our approach: collaborative design, transparent fabrication, custom finishing technology, and delivery to fit the space. View more completed work in our projects gallery.
