Epoxy Slab Dining Table for the M. Family
In Spring 2023, the M. family embarked on a journey to create a unique piece of furniture that would serve as the centerpiece of their dining room. Drawn in by our online advertising, which truly resonated with them, they visited our showroom in DCOTA (1855 Griffin Road, Dania Beach, 33004). Their vision was clear: a custom live edge epoxy slab dining table that combined the natural beauty of a saman (monkey pod, acacia) slab with a modern epoxy resin finish. This blog post details the creation of the "Teeth Table," a dining table designed for eight people, from the initial slab selection to the final product.
The journey began when the M. family visited our showroom, excited to choose the perfect wood slab for their table. They were immediately drawn to a stunning saman slab with a rich, natural grain.
After selecting the perfect slab, we presented several design options to the M. family. They ultimately chose a concept featuring epoxy along the edge, creating a stunning balance between the resin and the natural wood. The combination of materials not only enhanced the natural grain of the walnut but also added a sleek, modern contrast with the smooth, glass-like epoxy. The raw edge, with its organic imperfections, paired beautifully with the epoxy, creating a visual effect that resembled torn paper—giving the table a dynamic, layered look. This unique composition of wood and epoxy offered a striking contrast between the warm, earthy tones of the walnut and the cool, contemporary feel of the resin.
With the design approved and the finish chosen, we began the meticulous process of preparing the slab and pouring the epoxy. Each layer of epoxy was carefully poured and allowed to cure, ensuring a flawless finish.
The curing process required patience and precision. We took several photos to document each stage and keep the M. family involved and excited about their custom table.
The final product, affectionately named the "Teeth Table," measures 8 feet in length, making it perfect for accommodating eight people. One side of the table features unique epoxy "teeth" that add character and a touch of artistry, while the other side is leveled with epoxy to create a smooth and straight edge. The oil finish enhances the natural grain of the saman wood and protects the surface.
The table's legs are crafted from sturdy black steel, with wooden inserts made from the same material, providing a modern contrast to the organic feel of the wood and resin. Each detail was crafted with care, ensuring the table was not only functional but also a piece of art.
The M. family was thrilled with the final product. They appreciated the transparency and involvement throughout the process, from selecting the wood slab to choosing the epoxy color and finish. Upon delivery, they were amazed by how well the table fit into their dining space, both in size and style. Their positive feedback and excitement about the table have already led to several inquiries from their friends and family, interested in commissioning their own custom live edge epoxy tables.
This project was a delightful collaboration that resulted in a stunning live edge epoxy slab dining table, aptly named the "Teeth Table."
